Getting It Right in Camera

At a recent Sutton Filmmakers club night on Tuesday 3 May 2025, club chairman Peter Leverick delivered a thoughtful and technically rich session on two crucial aspects of cinematography: Getting exposure and colour right in camera. Drawing on his decades of experience, including credits as a senior camera operator on Only Fools and Horses and Grange Hill, Peter guided members through the principles and practicalities of getting footage right in camera.

Giovanni Tria’s Sound Design and the use of Foley Workshop 

The three main components of film sound are voice, sound effects and music, all of which as Giovanni explained need movement, interactive elements and air to exist, as sound cannot travel without air. Most film and tv audio is reproduced, custom, studio sound effects known as Foley. Artists perform the sounds such as footsteps, doors closing and horses galloping, with numerous props in synch with the visual scenes.
